Anaheim, Iowa team up to help flood victims

The NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, the Samueli Foundation and Schlegel Sports have announced a joint donation totaling $20,000 to the Embrace Iowa – 2008 Disaster Fund for flood victims in Iowa. Anaheim, the new NHL affiliate to Iowa’s AHL franchise, and Schlegel Sports, the team’s owner, will present a check to the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation this week. |

The Manchester Monarchs and the Monarchs Care Foundation raised nearly $43,000 on Monday at the seventh annual Ace Bailey Golf Classic at Manchester Country Club. Proceeds from this year's sold-out event benefit the Level II Special Care Nursery at The Mom's Place, located at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, and the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation. |
Griffins and Safe Kids to team up for "Lids at the Library"

AHL, teams raise $2.68 million for charities

More than $2.68 million was raised over the course of the 2007-08 season by the AHL and its 29 member clubs for donation to various charitable causes and relief funds across North America. AHL teams also gave back to their local communities through school, hospital and library visits and donations of tickets, food, coats, toys and hockey equipment to worthy organizations. |
Norfolk's All-Star Reader Program reaches new heights

Over 25,000 students across Hampton Roads participated in the Norfolk Admirals’ All-Star Reader Program last season, the Admirals announced today. The All-Star Reader Program was instituted during the 2006-07 season to reward elementary school students for reading. Students who completed the program received free tickets to Admirals games. The Binghamton Senators proudly announced today that the third annual Face Off Against Cancer, presented by Lourdes and held during the B-Sens game against Springfield on Saturday, April 5, generated more than $21,207.79 for the American Cancer Society and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The Syracuse Crunch held a special ceremony honoring the 1972-73 Eastern Hockey League champion Syracuse Blazers prior to their game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, Mar. 8, at the Onondaga County War Memorial. Former Blazers assistant coach Brian Elwell, trainer "Red" Coughlin, and players Mike Smith, Al Rycroft, Barry Brooks and Ray Adduono were on hand for the ceremony. The six men helped raise a championship banner and were each presented with a plaque commemorating the occasion. The Crunch then took on the Penguins wearing throwback Blazers jerseys. |
